Easy Chocolate Mousse with Peanut Butter Swirl

OMG is all I can say about this little dessert I whipped up when I was craving a chocolate fix the other day. I’ve made this easy chocolate mousse before, but on this particular day I was in a creative mood and decided to stir some of my newly homemade nut butter through it at the last minute – and the result was absolutely incredible!

Plus, it takes next to no time to throw together and can be eaten after just a couple of hours in the fridge).

Why it’s good for you:

  • Avocados are full of monounsaturated fats which help inflammation, as well as improve your body’s ability to absorb nutrients. They’re also high in fibre to maintain a healthy digestive system and B vitamins which can help improve mood and energy levels.
  • Cacao powder is a superfood packed full of antioxidants that help fight free radicals (that cause cellular damage). It is also believed to boost mood and a sense of wellbeing by increasing serotonin levels in the brain.
  • Coconut milk contains a significant amount of Vitamin C which helps the body turn food into energy. Plus, it has a high amount of lauric acid, a medium chain fatty acid known for it’s anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and immune boosting properties.

Things to watch out for:

While this is full of healthy fats, it does have a high fat content with both the avocado, coconut milk and nut butter combined, so just be aware of what else you eat during the day if you plan on making this for dessert. This is equally as delicious without the nut butter (ok, actually maybe not equally as delicious, but still delicious!) so if you’re worried about overdoing it you can leave it out and have guilt-free dessert.

Chocolate Mousse

Guilt (+ dairy + egg) free Chocolate 'Peanut Butter' Mousse

An amazingly light and rich dark chocolate mousse, full of healthy fats, anti-oxidants and refined sugar free!

  1. 1 1/4 cup coconut milk
  2. 1 avocado
  3. 4-5 medjool dates (finely chopped)
  4. 1/3 cup organic cacao powder
  5. 1/2 tbsp ground chia seeds
  6. 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  7. pinch of salt
  8. 1/4 cup nut butter (I used cashew and macadamia nut)
Optional toppings
  1. Fresh raspberries
  2. Cacao nibs
  3. Dusting of cacao powder
  4. Chopped macadamia nuts
  1. Blend coconut milk, avocado and dates in a high powered blender for 1-2 minutes until smooth.
  2. Add cacao powder, vanilla, salt and chia seeds and blend for a further 30 seconds until beautifully light, smooth and creamy.
  3. Stir through the nut butter so it leaves visible swirls through the mousse and spoon into serving glasses.
  4. Sprinkle with whatever topping takes your fancy - nuts, cacao nibs, fruit etc and place in the fridge for 2-3 hours until set.
  5. Enjoy!
  1. I use homemade coconut milk as I prefer the taste, but canned coconut milk works fine too.
  2. If you like your mousse sweeter add 1/2 tbsp of raw honey.
